The customs regime is unforgiving
A cruising licence that lapses cannot simply be renewed; the vessel has to leave and come back, usually to the Bahamas. We calendar it a year out, because the alternative is an unplanned crossing in the wrong week.
Fort Lauderdale and Newport Β· the whole east coast run, both ways, every year
The American season is a migration, and almost everything that goes wrong happens on the two deliveries rather than in the two seasons. Bridges, inlets, hurricane deadlines and a customs regime that treats a foreign-flagged yacht quite differently from a domestic one.
What we do
Nothing matches that search. to see everything.
How we work
A cruising licence that lapses cannot simply be renewed; the vessel has to leave and come back, usually to the Bahamas. We calendar it a year out, because the alternative is an unplanned crossing in the wrong week.
Yards and holes are allocated in the spring. By the time a storm has a name, the good options are taken and the insurer is asking what your plan was.
Two deliveries a year past Hatteras with fixed bridge schedules and inlets that move. Most damage we deal with happened on a delivery that nobody was watching.
The same person in Fort Lauderdale in January and Newport in July. Handing a vessel between two firms at Beaufort is where the details get dropped.
βOur licence was three weeks from expiring and nobody had told the owner it could not just be renewed. They had a Bahamas turn planned and cleared inside a week, and now it is on a calendar we all see. That single thing has paid for them twice over.β
